In short
Kurt Lewin (1890–1947) was a German-American psychologist widely considered the founder of group dynamics, action research, and organizational change. His field theory — behavior is a function of person and environment, B = f(P,E) — reframed individual action as inseparable from its social field.
1. The framework
Lewin's leadership-climate experiments with Ronald Lippitt compared autocratic, democratic, and laissez-faire leaders and found the group's whole character changed with the climate. His change model — unfreeze, change, refreeze — still underlies most change-management practice.
Every team entry in this library sits on ground Lewin cleared: behavior at work is group behavior, and the leader's climate is part of the mechanism, not background noise.
2. Where critics push back
Lewin's climate studies were small and their vocabulary belongs to their era, but the replication direction has held: leader behavior reshapes group process faster than almost any other single factor.
